In my experience, I design resumes with nice formatting in Word. When I upload these, or paste them, the formatting disappears and it looks terrible. Still, I do get calls for jobs and offers, so....

I think it looks unprofessional and I always bring a properly formatted copy (or several) to an interview.

Fix it if it is a bad date or grammar etc...
Formating should be controlled by the online service.

I wouldn't chance it. Fix the resume. As someone who looks at hundereds of them all the time I can tell you that even the smallest thing can stick out and become a reason to put your resume in the "maybe later" pile or the circular file. The job of someone who looks at resumes is to eliminate as many as possible. If you don't execute attention to detail on your own resume how can I expect you to pay attention to detail on the job?
