Default How do I make myself stand out from other applicants during an interview?

I have a job interview tomorrow morning.
I am already employed.
The job I have applied for is one of greater opportunity and is in the same industry I now work in and have over 10 years experience in.
I know all the basics - smile, make eye contact, dress for success, etc.
But are there any other ways in which I can make myself stand out from all of the other applicants?
I desperately want this position as it would be a wonderful career advancement - but I don't want to seem desperate!

Also, would it be improper to wear a black skirt?
Would it seem too formal or like I was attending a funeral?
I planned on perhaps wearing a black skirt with a light colored dress shirt.
If anyone has any tips to offer I would be most appreciative!!

1. Be yourself, (an interviewer can spot a phony in a minute)
2. Wear cool blue or a touch of pink; these colors put other people at ease and blue sends a message that you are honest and comfortable with yourself.
3. Do not wear a black shirt. Wear a black suit, with a pink or blue shirt
4. Shake hands, firmly but do not grip as if you wanted to pull the hand from the socket
5. Look the person in the eye, say hello and repeat their name at least three times during the interview. When you first meet, during the interview and when you say good bye.

6. When you leave, shake hands, say "Thank you [name] for seeing me. I really appreciate the opportunity to interview for this position. Please call me if you have any questions that later on!.: Something like that.

Never avoid eye contact, but don't stare.

Good luck to you.

A couple of quick tips:

Don't be afraid to not know the answer to a question. Rather than make up an answer that shows you obviously don't know the answer, just admit it. This humility shows that you are honest and not afraid to admit to someone that you don't know everything. If you tell them what you think they want to hear, they will catch that and doubt the rest of the answers you give them.

Also, don't be afraid to admit that you're working elsewhere. If they ask when you can start, tell them you will have to give notice at your current employer and you'll need at least a couple of weeks. This shows the prospective new employer that you are concerned about the people/company you work for and would be the same way with the new employer.

Regarding what you wear to a job interview, that depends on the company and the position. For example, in almost any kind of office-oriented business, wear sharp business attire. But, you wouldn't want to wear an Armani suit to a job interview at a construction site. If the person in the room who is dressed the best is you, then you're doing okay.
