Has anyone ever been caught lying on your resume? What happened?

I was recently offered a job position with a large company...this would be my dream job. But I can't start yet until the background check is complete. I lied about a job that I only worked at for like a month....I stated that I worked there for a year. So has anyone ever had a lie come up in a background check? What happened then?

And to all you self-righteous people that think it's sooo wrong to lie on your resume, I know that already, you don't have to tell me. Congratulations that you're such a trustworthy person

Did the interviewer ask about this job in the interview? How many jobs ago was it? These two are the most important points. If it was not brought up or addressed you can recover if given the chance, but if you lied right to someone's face, I doubt you will overcome this.

Stretching the truth to get an interview is a generally accepted reality, committing fraud on your application gets you kicked to the bottom really quickly. Plus, keep in mind that if you get the job, and they find out later that you fraudulently filled out your application, they will can you in a heartbeat.
