Java the Virual Machine/Platform has a solid future. A lot of languages are now using the JVM.

It depends on what field you are in. If you understand Object Oriented Programming then moving between Java and .Net is mostly syntactical. I wouldn't rule either one of them out.
Try to maintain knowledge in both areas and you should be in good shape.
