Are you referring to the puzzles which look in the form SEND + MORE = MONEY, where each letter represents a unique integer?

If so then these puzzles are called alphametics or cryptarithms. You can find out more info on them here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alphametic

some alphametic puzzles:
http://www.cut-the-knot.org/cryptarithms/st_crypto.shtml

an alphametic solver here:

For an in depth solution process I suggest you hit the search engines and practice.

You know that 1,2 ,3 ,4 ,5 ,6.... are integers having positive values!

What happens when you rearrange it as...

0,1 ,2 ,3 ,4 ,5 ,6...

What you have to say is another integer having no value is added prior to set 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6... What are implications of using both said systems concurrently by not relating any written/ well known principles guiding it!

I think you have understood the puzzle?

Hope this puzzle is good enough to keep you alive rest of your life?

Regards!
