riddle that's super tough?

ok you are on an island, 2 tribes live there, 1 tribe always lies and the other always tells the truth. you are walking down a road when you come to a fork, 1 way leads to the Hilton hotel and another leads to a swamp full of man eating crocodiles, in the middle of the paths there is 1 of the tribes men holding a spear, you don't know what tribe he is from but you can only ask 1 question because if you ask 2 you'll find out what his spear is for. what do you ask?
