Here is a brief scholarly article from the University of Michigan examining the evidence found in research related to the gender gap in technology. The rest of the site has more information as well:

Well, the evidence is simple...how many times have you gone to the computer shop, or had a computer technician come to fix your house and it was a female?? Not sure about you, but i have never seen a woman in the computer shop, and no tech that has come to my house has been female. If I had to choose between a man and woman technician, I would probably choose the man, because I want my computer fixed fast, I dont want to talk, I dont want to explain in detail, and by just looking at the woman the talking, explaining and slowness all pop into my mind, even if they werent true.
