Default simple mathematics or is it?

3 lads sharing a flat want a tv so they all put £10 each in the kitty for a £30 tv they gave this money to friend to go for it.he went and bought the tv for £25 by haggling on the way home he put £2 in his own pocket then gave the lads a £1 back each. so the lads paid £9 each. so 3x9=27 and the 2 he pocketed =29 wheres the pound

    Lol made me think there!

£25 is the actual cost for the thing.
    £25/3 = £8.33 each.
The haggling guy gave back a £1 each so the total is £28 or £9.33 each.
The £2 is what he put in his own pocket which makes up for the remaining £0.66 from the tenner.

You mentioned that each lad 'paid' £9 - it's actually £9.33 (what they paid was £8.33 but got the £1 back).
    3 x £9.33 is £28
