Yes the U.S. is working on a variety of weapon systems that include particle weapons...however to date The prototypes have been to large for the bang.....attempts continue to make them smaller and more versatile.

From an inside source, technology is an average of 20 years ahead of our time. Many things hitting the public sector has been perfected many years ago. Some technologies are held back because the public is percived not ready for exposure. One of my theories is that if you parallel science fiction to reality you will see a lag from when an idea is introduced to the acceptance of reality. Is science fiction a tool to prepare us for future incorporation of existing technologies? Hmmmm That track record has been pretty good so far. Jetson's for example, instant meals, communicators, even the space cars to a degree, the moving sidewalks, just small examples.Yes, particle weapons already exist.

This weapon system has already been invented and proven. However, the power input/output ratio is well outside the curve. It takes more power to fire, than it puts out so it will be a while yet before it becomes a common system. Another system is the electromagnetic phase discriminator used to take out electronic equipment without harming the surrounding buildings or personnel. Then there's the ULF bomb designated "Thunderbird." This uses highly focused Ultra Low Frequency sound waves to create a blast wave without having to drop a bomb. Concussive force is equal to about 15 thousand tons of TNT depending upon wavefront, frequency, and time to target. You will hear more about these sometime within the next few years. There are a few others but I don't want to bore you.
