    I guess you would have to be a guy to think that simple.

    Mt. Everest, makes sense now!

    Default Brain Teaser!?

    Here's the question, does anyone know the answer?

    The parellelogram bounded by the lines y=ax+c , y=ax+d , y=bx+c , and y=bx+d has the area 18. The parellogram bounded by the lines y=ax+c , y=ax-d , y=bx+c , and y=bx-d has the area 72.

    Given that a ,b ,c and d are positive integers, what is the smallest possible value of a+b+c+d?

    If possible, could you explain how you got your answer so I could learn?
    Thanks!

    upon visually interpretation(using graph theory)
    c=3d, 16*d*d=36*(a-b) a=-b
    so a=2,b=-2,c=9,d=3
    a+b+c+d=12
    to solve ...we can first visualize by drawing these straight lines that these must represent a rhombus and when area is becoming one-fourth by one vertex from (-d,0) to (d,0) that means both diagonals of rhombus would have half lengths of their previous lengths. i.e c+d=2(c-d) so c=3d and calculating length of other diagonal and given the area we get
    (c+d)*2(c+d)/(a-b)=72
    so that gives us ans

    many solutions possible but in all a,l,d=0 r=g
    like: 031000+231000=262000
