business on my third story patio? How can I get him to do that. Right now he will only do his business when I take him for a walk.

Are you too lazy to take him for a walk???

I don't understand why you'd want him to eliminate on a 3rd story patio.

Honestly i think it would be better for your dog to do his business while you take him for walks. Why do you see that as a bad thing? Since you are on a 3rd floor, I would reccommend that it is not a good idea train him to do it on the patio, just for the sake of the tennents below you. Taking your dog for walks is healthy for him and yourself. Keep walking your dog and let him do his business then.

Good DOG!!! I'm glad I'm not your neighbor downstairs or downwind! Having a dog means being responsible. Wanting your to dog s**t on your balcony is NOT responsible pet ownership. Get off your lazy A** and take your dog for his walk!!!

You can train him to use puppy pads, but I wouldn't train him to use the plain patio...that can be a bit stinky, considering most patios I know of are made out of wood, and wood absorbs odors.

Why not just get used to taking him out for short walks throughout the day? You should've considered the responsibility required by you, BEFORE adopting a dog.
