How do you train your dog to walk beside you while biking?

Has anyone used a bike attachment for this? Did it work?

I've known many people who use the "Springer" bike attachment to exercise their dogs, and swear by it.

They say it's the safest way to bike with a dog, since they can't dash in front of the bike or pull you over.
