| ...previous training? He's 8 months into life and previous owners just let him pee and go poo anywhere! Never had time to train him. I've tried crate training but he doesn't seem to be catching on. Anyone have any advice for a puppy this far into life? Darn, I got the hardest dog to train! lol He's such a cool little guy though. I bought the spray scent. Doesn't seem to phase him and oh man does that stuff stink lol, my toddler almost got a hold of it, could you imagine! Right now I have him confined to a space where only his kennel can be exessed and then a large pad and his water. Is this wrong? ;/ Victoria: Yeah I agree with you. I feel horrible confining him to only so much space. Maybe I did the wrong thing by taking on so much responsibility. But his previous owner was AWFUL. Hopefully worse than me lol but no he was bad. |

| It is tough to undo the damage another owner has done--I'm going through the same thing myself with my puppy I got from a rescue center. This is my 5th dog, and they are like children-no two are alike. The training is more you being trained rather than the dog. I feed Kayle and then in about 10-15 min- the time it takes me to do the dishes, I take her outside and she usually will go---I keep an eye on her all the time-- if she starts sniffing around- out she goes---yes, she still makes mistakes, and I would never want her to be the kind of dog that NEVER would go in the house if I didn't get home in time--I truly believe that is animal cruelty to expect any animal to "hold it" for over 8 hours while someone is working......and that's not counting travel time. Your best bet would be to do what I am doing and then use the training pads that they sell in the pet stores that has a scent on it so they will go on them--- they look like a flat big diaper.....and eventually they will catch on. Never scold your puppy --- he will then hide where he goes and that will make it worse for you to keep your place clean. Block him off in a bathroom or kitchen while you're gone to work ....bathroom is better because you can close the toilet and there are no electrical wires around for them to chew and it's easy to clean up messes..........good luck to you........and your new little one!!! |
